PLAYER RATINGS!! Champions League Final | See Full Details

Real Madrid turned the screw on Juventus after half-time in Cardiff as Cristiano Ronaldo scored a double.

In winning the European Cup for a 12th time, the Spaniards became the first side to successfully defend the trophy in the Champions League era.

Mario Mandzukic had given the Italians hope with a spectacular equaliser but Casemiro and Marco Asensio also notched for Zinedine Zidane’s men.

Gareth Bale made a late appearance as the La Liga champions added to their league title.

Here are how the two teams rated during a riveting final…

JUVENTUS

Gianluigi Buffon 6 – No chance with Ronaldo’s deflected opener, although might have done better to stop Casemiro’s deflected second.

Andrea Barzagli 6 – Magnificent challenge on Isco to deny the midfielder a shot when charging in on goal, but caught out for pace a couple of times.

Leonardo Bonucci 6 – Probably the best of Juventus’ defence but even he was overwhelmed when Madrid struck with pace on the counter

Giorgio Chiellini 5 – Tasked with looking after Ronaldo and the Portugal hitman won the battle.

Dani Alves 5 – A shame for the Brazilian that he couldn’t keep up his fine form in the tournament, with little offensive impact.

Miralem Pjanic 6 – Fought hard in midfield but beyond forcing Navas into an early stop, will be disappointed with his game.

Sami Khedira 5 – Started off well but Madrid ended up dominating the game and he could not stop his old side controlling the play.

Alex Sandro 5 – Like Alves, was not able to get forward with much end product.

Paulo Dybala 6 – His quick feet gave Madrid’s defence a lot of trouble, but didn’t cause Navas many problems.

Gonzalo Higuain 6 – Threatened early on and then teed up Mandzukic, working hard throughout but it wasn’t enough

Mario Mandzukic 7 – Showed incredible strength and precision to score his unforgettable overhead equaliser.

SUBS

Juan Cuadrado 3 – Sent off when he reacted badly to a Ramos tackle.

REAL MADRID
Keylor Navas 6 – Fine save to deny Miralem Pjanic but a top level goalkeeper might have clawed out Mandzukic’s strike.

Dani Carvajal 7 – Set up Ronaldo’s opener but found it harder at the back against the relentless Mario Mandzukic. Booked for fouling the Croatian.

Raphael Varane 7 – A confident game at the back and showed why Madrid are willing to let Pepe leave in the summer.

Sergio Ramos 6 – Booked in the first half and his disgraceful playacting to see Cuadrado dismissed tarnished his individual display. He won’t care one iota though.

Marcelo 7 – Off colour first half from one of the team’s usual top performers, but was back to his best in the second period, helping to turn the tide and setting up the fourth.

Casemiro 7 – Technical ability is not his forte but he has plenty of fight and is an essential part of the team. Scored a rare goal with a deflected long-ranger which put Madrid back ahead.

Luka Modric 8 – The Croatian is one of the most delightful players to watch on the planet. Style and substance, he was fundamental in Madrid’s second half spectacle.

Toni Kroos 7 – A midfield metronome and like his team-mates, impressive in the second period, with his passing helping to strangle Juventus.

Isco 7 – Deserved to start the final but struggled to find his way into the game as Juventus started strongly. The longer it went on, the better he got, and so did his team.

Karim Benzema 6 – Worked hard but didn’t get the chance to shine like he did against Atletico at the Calderon with his fine work that set up Madrid’s away goal.

Cristiano Ronaldo 9 – The man for the big occasion, drilling home the opener and then bagging the third for his 600th career goal for club and country.

SUBS

Gareth Bale n/a – Got a big ovation in his home city after coming on, and could have scored after Ronaldo bust a gut to set him up.

Marco Asensio n/a – Only on the pitch for a few minutes but netted from close range.
