Osun Government Insults Fulani Herdsmen Over Invasion Of Farm Lands

The Osun State government has condemned in totality, the alleged invasion of farmlands by Fulani herdsmen in the state, describing it as unacceptable.

This was contained in a press statement issued by the Media Adviser to the Governor, Mr Sola Fasure and made available to newsmen in Osogbo on Thursday.

According to the statement, the government’s position was the resolution of the State Executive Council meeting held on Wednesday.

It noted that the invasion also posed serious threat to the security of lives in the affected areas.

It added that scores of farmers had been forced to abandon their farms due to the level of loss suffered as a result of the invasion, and inherent tension generated thereof.

“Council received report of the menace of nomadic herdsmen who bring their cattle to eat up crops on farms and commit other crimes in the state.

“Council viewed this seriously and condemned it strongly. It is the council’s strong position that this development constitutes a threat to security of lives and food production in the state.

“Council is dismayed that many farmers in the state have been forced to abandon their farms, some of which have now been converted to criminal hideouts.

“Council sympathised with the farmers and urged those affected not to take laws into their hands but adequately inform law enforcement agencies and other relevant government agencies who are in the best position to address their plight,” the statement read.
